Peace Walk in Leicester City
As God was moving on me,
I took a peace walk
in Leicester City;
the kind that you
don’t come back from
without bypassing
your cherished
Holly Humberstone
concert opportunity
in favour of
a stronger urge to
simply walk through
the adjacent
cemetery—
an undulating
jungle of bodies
stretching back
for centuries.
Crossing back to the
other side of the road—
an undulating
jungle of bodies
bounding home
from schools
and the
adjacent
university.
A cultural rainbow
with meteoric pedigree.
I walked through it
like a time traveller
through centuries.
Took my time at
Victoria Park
Peace Walk.
Holly still sang,
with the voice of
an angel;
my ticket still
made sense
to me.
That evening,
God revealed
himself for free.
The whole day
felt like “Leonid”
by Durante—
a song that wasn’t
written yet,
at least not by me—
and such a
pure,
consistent
melody.
You might not know
what all this feels like,
but perhaps
you’ll find
your cemetery.

“Hey Google,
Play ‘Leonid’
By Durante.”
